The St. Louis Public Schools Parent/Infant Interaction Program (PIIP) hosted its annual holiday celebration with lunch and presents for PIIP students and their children. PIIP serves all pregnant and parenting students, male and female, by meeting their educational, vocational, physical, social, and emotional needs while paving the path to graduation.

PIIP is housed at Vashon, Sumner and Roosevelt high schools. Among the many benefits to PIIP, students in the program receive day care at the school site for their infants and toddlers. Staff provides educational activities to promote early literacy and language development for the young children, as well as information to parents on child development and parenting skills.

Each year, PIIP sponsors the Holiday Adopt-A-Baby event. The Adopt-A-Baby Program is a holiday celebration for the children of the PIIP centers to receive gifts from Secret Santa. This event helps parenting students and their children participating in the PIIP program to receive holiday gifts they may otherwise not receive. The gifts are distributed at the celebration.

The event—held at the O’Fallon Park Recreation Complex—also included a full lunch catered by John Dunn of Homestyle Catering, presentation of certificates to PIIP parents, a sing-along of “Jingle Bells” led by PIIP toddlers, and the reading of a Christmas poem by Roosevelt student Kyani Walker.
