Wells Fargo Advisors hosted more than 30 students from Vashon High School at its second annual career day on December 6. The 11th graders were required to write an essay to be considered for the program.

The daylong event included seminars on identifying and assessing personality strengths, job applications and interviewing skills, and financial responsibility. Students were also treated to breakfast, lunch, and a tour of the Wells Fargo Advisors campus.

A panel discussion featured Carol Sloane, senior vice president at Wells Fargo Advisors; Lu Reames, vice president and attorney at Wells Fargo Advisors; Maurice Tennial, project management manager at Wells Fargo Advisors; Natalie Davis, a family nurse practitioner; and Dr. Harvey Fields, a pastor and assistant director for academic programs at Washington University in St. Louis.

The panelists shared their stories and how they chose their careers. “If you have a will and a desire, there’s a way,” Mr. Reames told the students.

Wells Fargo Advisors has an ongoing partnership with St. Louis Public Schools to provide tutoring and other significant support at three SLPS schools: Dunbar Elementary School, Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School, and Vashon High School. The brokerage firm most recently helped to launch an Honors Academy at Vashon last month. Each student in the academy has been assigned a mentor from Wells Fargo Advisors.
