    TEACHING & LEARNING

  • The SLPS Standards-Based Curriculum is aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and provides a framework for ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality education and are prepared to meet academic expectations established by the State of Missouri in alignment with the State Assessment Programming.

Key features of a standards-based curriculum include:

    • Standards Alignment: Pacing, assessment, and all instructional resources, are aligned to standards to ensure that teaching and learning activities support students in meeting the specified objectives.
    • Proficiency Scales: Provide a framework for assessing and evaluating skills and knowledge in a consistent and systematic way, helping to both students and teacher identify markers of standards-based proficiency and mark progress along the way.
    • Common Assessments: Formative and summative assessments are used during the learning process to gather feedback and information about students' understanding and progress. They are designed to inform instruction and guide teachers in adjusting their teaching methods to meet the needs of students.
    • Feedback and Reporting: Ongoing feedback on student progress is provided to students, parents, and educators. Report cards and progress reports often communicate how well students meet the standards.
    • Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) are embedded in each curriculum plan document to support teachers with differentiation in support of student success.
