• Sweetie Pie’s Owner Talks with Culinary Arts and Hospitality Students
     Group Shot

Robbie Montgomery, the loveable, outspoken owner of Sweetie Pie's, spoke with culinary arts and hospitality students from Clyde C. Miller and Beaumont high schools today at the Central Library!

Miss Montgomery gave students an insider’s perspective on switching careers, running successful restaurants, starring on a TV show, and working with family. Always passionate about food, when a health issue forced Miss Montgomery to give up her career as a backup singer, she moved back to St. Louis and opened the soul food restaurant Sweetie Pie’s in 1996. A show about the restaurant and the family dynamics behind its operation, “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” airs on the OWN network. New episodes start March 15, 2014.

Miss Montgomery also judged recipes turned in by the students prior to the event. She selected three winners and revealed that she had made each of the dishes. Each winner received a gift bag with various gift certificates. They will also receive chef jackets!

Following the forum, students toured the Central Library, which reopened on December 9, 2012 after an extensive two-year renovation. The event was part of the St. Louis Public Library’s month-long focus on culinary arts.
