• Classical Guitarists Perform at Humboldt

    Duo Noire

Students at Humboldt Academy of Higher Learning Elementary School received a rare treat today—an assembly featuring groundbreaking American classical guitarists Duo Noire plus tickets to the group’s full-length show this weekend at Sheldon Concert Hall.

Duo Noire is comprised of Thomas Flippin and Christopher Mallett. Formed while both were attending the Yale School of Music as the first African American guitarists in the school’s history, Duo Noire has collectively gone on to perform across the United States at prestigious venues such as the Norfolk Music Festival, the 92nd Street Y, Le Poisson Rouge, the Times Center, and for the St. Louis Guitar Society as Artists-in-Residence.

Flippin and Mallett played the students works by a variety of composers, ranging from Bach to Scott Joplin. They also provided interactive music lessons and answered questions from students. Each student will receive a voucher for up to six guests to the show on Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m.
