• AP Studio Art Portfolio Day

AP Art I   AP Art II

On a snowy Friday, AP Studio Art students had the opportunity to experience the world of collegiate and professional art. On December 6, 22 students from three schools—Carnahan, Central Visual and Performing Arts, and Clyde C. Miller—along with their teachers, Karen Boyd, Bill Perry, and Jason Criveau, spent several hours at the Contemporary Art Museum in the Grand Center Arts District.

The students divided into three groups and presented their portfolios to one of three art professors: Gary Passanise from Webster University; Ken Wood from St. Louis Community College, Meramec; and Mary Lamboley from Washington University in St. Louis. These professors provided specific, detailed, and supportive feedback to each student, asking questions about the inspiration for specific pieces and the choices of color and background, as well as giving personal reactions to what they were seeing and offering suggestions for additional ideas and directions that students might pursue.

The portfolio sessions were followed by lunch courtesy of the Contemporary Art Museum and the SLPS Foundation, and students had an opportunity to view the museum’s collection. The museum’s liaison with SLPS for this project, Tuan Nguyen, expressed his delight at hosting these students, and, along with the other staff, praised their talents.
