ST. LOUIS, MO, September 25, 2013 - Congratulations are in order for Camille K. Casmier and Andrew Schmidt, seniors at Metro Academic and Classical High School. Camille has been named a National Achievement Semifinalist, one of only 23 statewide to receive the honor. Andrew has been recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 specifically to honor scholastically talented Black American high school students and provide college scholarships for a substantial number of the most outstanding participants in each annual competition.

The program is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. NMSC also conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. Each year, the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from more than 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT. Although the NHRP does not provide a financial reward, being named is an important academic recognition.

As a National Achievement Semifinalist, Camille—along with two other Metro students, National Merit semifinalists Sterling Lawler and Zachary Miller—will now compete for a portion of $35 million dollars in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship program.
