ST. LOUIS, MO. October 18, 2013– The Rotary Club of St. Louis presented the Young Citizen Award to 28 deserving St. Louis Public School District high school seniors at the organizations weekly meeting on October 17, 2013. The award winners were nominated by their respective principals. The Rotary Club of St. Louis has now presented the Young Citizen Award for four years to SLPS seniors. The meeting was held at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis.
This award, funded through a grant provided by the Rotary Club of St. Louis to the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation, recognizes one female and one male student from each SLPS high school. The Young Citizen Award is presented to students who have excelled academically, maintained exemplary school attendance, exhibited good citizenship, and made significant community service contributions.
As awardees, students honored during the St. Louis Rotary Club luncheon are presented with a framed certificate signed by the St. Louis Rotary Club president, David Wicks. They also receive a $100 gift card.
The Class of 2013-2014 Young Citizen Award winners are: Jose Jackson and Aretha Na’Trese Brown (Beaumont), Matthew Hanks and Mitzi Pedro (Carnahan), Antonio Foster and Ayont Young (Central VPA), Dwayne Rogers and Mikayla Lance (Cleveland NJROTC), Hassan Owens and Loren Dawson (Miller Career Academy), Errol Jackson and Keisha Brent (College Prep High School @ Madison), Reid Chunn and Tuyet Troung (Gateway STEM), Tan Luu and Viridiana Lopez (McKinley CLA), Gregor Samocha and Raina Brooks (Metro), Khory Stark and Aja McCoy (Northwest Law Academy), Shahid Fernandez and Tange Taylor (Roosevelt), Darryon Plair and Pular Jarwleh (Soldan), Darrell Paige and Kelcee Burton (Sumner) and Justin Banks and Sep’Tisha Riley (Vashon).
The Rotary Club of St. Louis has a history of more than 100 years of community service. Its mission is to create a network of community and business people to accomplish the common goal of making a difference in the greater St. Louis region and the world, by contributing their time, talent and financial resources.
The Rotary Club of St. Louis has partnered with the St. Louis Public Schools for decades with programs such as the 8thGrade Leadership Awards, sponsorship of Interact Service Clubs, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Rotary Youth Exchange.
