SLPS Students Skip Spring Break To Attend School

Spring Break Reading And Math Academy Taking Place At The Gateway Complex

ST. LOUIS, MO. March 18, 2013 – While their friends and classmates are enjoying a relaxing week away from the books, hundreds of St. Louis Public School students are strengthening their academic skills at the SLPS Spring Break Reading And Math Academy.   Selected 3rd – 8th grade students are spending each Spring Break vacation day at the Gateway Complex between 9am and 3:20pm.

The SLPS Spring Break Reading And Math Academy is designed to help reduce the learning gap for up to 500 students.  The participating students are receiving personalized instruction from highly qualified teachers.  High school tutors are also assisting in the classrooms to provide additional support.

Teachers will work with the students attending the SLPS Spring Break Reading And Math Academy to help them improve in areas identified in their Acuity C test scores.  The Acuity C test is given to District students to help predict performance on the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) exams.  The SLPS Spring Break Reading And Math Academy students will be given a post-assessment test on the last day of the academy to measure growth during the week.

The SLPS Spring Break Reading And Math Academy is being offered under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer Dr. Nicole Williams.
