Woerner Elementary Named Missouri School of the Year

Do The Right Thing Program Announces Honor at Kick-Off Breakfast

ST. LOUIS, MO. August 3, 2012 – For the second time in the 19-year history of the Do The Right Thing (DTRT) Program, Woerner Elementary School in the Saint Louis Public School District has been selected as the Missouri School of the Year.  Woerner received official recognition of the award at the DTRT Kick-Off Breakfast held this morning at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park.

KMOV-TV news anchor Robin Smith served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.  In announcing Woerner as Missouri School of the Year, Smith noted, “Woerner was chosen for their continued support of DTRT by regularly nominating students for the award.  Woerner set an excellent example for all school districts by their commitment to character education in their school community.  Woerner had several students who were also honored at the monthly DTRT ceremonies during the 2011-2012 school year.”

Margaret “Peggy” Meyer, principal of Woerner Elementary School, was joined by several staff members at the recognition ceremony.  Woerner, located in South St. Louis at 6131 Leona, was recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in 2011 for earning Adequate Yearly Progress as part of the No Child Left Behind Act.  The school serves 380 children in grades Preschool through 5.
