    The Missouri State Board of Education held is monthly meeting in St. Louis in November and took advantage of their trip to visit a pair of SLPS buildings.

     

    On Monday afternoon, November 26, Woerner Elementary School hosted a visit by the Missouri State Board of Education members and several staff members of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, including Commissioner Dr. Chris Nicastro.  At Woerner, SBOE and DESE visitors toured the school and witnessed the 3rd Grade iPAD initiative in action, saw first-hand the District's early childhood expansion efforts, stopped by the District's Music Teacher of the Year's room, and learned about the District's Literacy Instructional Walks.

     

    On Tuesday morning, November 27, Carnahan High School of the Future welcomed the SBOE and DESE visitors.  After enjoying a data-driven presentation by Carnahan's students, the visitors toured the school and visited several classrooms, including the Project Lead The Way classrooms, eMINTS classrooms, Advanced Placement classrooms and the school radio station, where Dr. Nicastro was interviewed by a student.

     

    Superintendent Dr. Kelvin R. Adams, Special Administrative Board President/CEO Rick Sullivan and AFT Local 420 President Mary Armstrong were on hand at both schools to share SLPS success stories and answer questions posed by the SBOE and DESE members.
