Roosevelt Construction Trades Partners with Nottingham CAJT for Joint Learning Program
Due to the continued support of the Saint Louis Public Schools Division of Career and Technical Education, the Roosevelt Construction Trades program has produced picnic tables that will utilized for outdoor events at their school as well as at Nottingham CAJT. The Construction Trades program has partnered with the indoor outdoor maintenance program at CAJT to transform an area outside of the school into an outdoor dining area. The students utilized safe work practices, cross content math skills gained in their geometry and algebra classes as well technical writing skills to produce a production guide for future classes. The class is also working on utilizing academic vocabulary to produce a video in conjunction with the Radio and Television classes at Roosevelt High School. The commitment of the Career and Technical Education teachers at Roosevelt High School is tremendous. Students will work across content areas with CTE teachers to collaborate production phases of a Project or Problem based learning. Roosevelt High School had a problem (challenge) "outdoor seating for dining." The problem was passed to the Business Education Department for analysis of labor cost, material cost, and market value if tables were sold. The problem was then processed into a project which for profit purposes was analyzed by the marketing teachers and students.
