    ST. LOUIS, MO. January 31, 2013 – The St. Louis Public School District would like to congratulate Avante Morgan, a sixth grade student at Walbridge Elementary School, for being selected to represent St. Louis at the America SCORES National Poetry SLAM!  He will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City, NY.

     

    Kathleen Hudson, Associate Director for America SCORES-St. Louis, surprised Avante with the news during a special all-school assembly at Walbridge. 

     

    The 7th Annual National Poetry SLAM! will be held at the New York Stock Exchange on April 8, 2013, and celebrate the achievements of 28 poet-athletes from across the country.  As part of his experience, Avante will perform his original poem for invited guests at the Stock Exchange before enjoying a reception on the Trading Floor. In addition, he will be touring the city to visit some of its more renowned sites.

     

    America SCORES-St. Louis inspires urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. SLPS has five schools proudly partnered with America SCORES-St. Louis which offers innovative afterschool and summer programming that combines soccer, poetry, and service-learning every day for over 24 weeks each year.
