• February 2012- Recently, two Gateway Institute of Technology High School Engineering students placed second in the St. Louis University’s Parks College Bridge Building Contest.  Fourteen area high schools were represented with 23 bridges.

Aaron Petty and Terrance Lovett's bridge weighed in at 60.5 grams and held 41.5 pounds for an efficiency ratio of 311.1.  This was the highest weight carried by any bridge, but the team lost out to Trinity High School whose bridge held less but was lighter.

Petty and Lovett started their bridge design last fall with a design seminar mentored by civil engineering college students.  Construction started in December and just finished this month with a written report.
