• ST. LOUIS, MO, January 24, 2012 – The St. Louis Public School District is pleased to recognize Ms. Dawn Neupert as the Adelaide M. Schlafly Preschool Teacher of the Year.

     

    An educator with the District since 2005, Ms. Neupert stood out from her peers with her numerous education credentials, including a certificate in early childhood, MAT in Communication Arts, K-12 reading specialist certificate, and gifted certification.  She currently serves as a gifted preschool teacher in a self-contained gifted class at Mallinckrodt Academy of Gifted Instruction.

     

    “My mission is to provide a rich, warm, supportive environment in which my students develop cognitively, emotionally, physically and affectively,” said Ms. Neupert.

     

    Ms. Neupert’s classroom not only nurtures students’ creativity while inspiring them to learn daily, she helps students discover how to work and play with one another, to deal with conflicts peacefully, and to take responsibility for actions. Furthermore, Ms. Neupert believes that parental involvement is an “iatrical part of the classroom community” and engages parents in the learning process.

     

    “Ms. Neupert places a high value on creating a learning environment that is engaging, challenging, and literacy and technology rich. She also has an open door policy with her parents and communicates with them regularly,” said Ms. Merry Denny, Principal at Mallinckrodt, who nominated Ms. Neupert for the award.  

     

    As the Adelaide M. Schlafly Preschool Teacher of the Year Neupert received a check from the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation in the amount of $1,000. She also received two plaques and a $500 certificate for professional development through the Parsons Blewett Memorial Fund.
