• February 2012- SLPS students participating in the District’s Saturday Scholars program had the privilege to attend the 2012 Health Professions Fair at Washington University School of Medicine to learn about health related career opportunities.  A list of distinguished presenters from the Fair can be found by clicking here.

     

    About the Saturday Scholars program:

    The Saturday Scholars program is part of a three-pronged partnership among St. Louis Public Schools, Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Missouri Medical School. The program, which focuses on medicine and human anatomy, takes students in to the healthcare field through immersion experiences. The partnership is spearheaded by retired SLPS administrator Shirley Brown and its roots date back to the 1981/1982 school year.

     

    Participating Schools:

    Beaumont, Central VPA, Cleveland NJROTC, Gateway I.T., Metro A&C, Clyde C. Miller, Roosevelt, Soldan, Sumner and Vashon

     

    Upcoming Event:

    SLPS will send the above referenced 25 students to visit Mizzou in April for the Excellence In Learning program, where they will participate in problem based learning workshops and shadow health professionals.

     

    Special Thanks:

    Support from SLPS teachers and administrators, along with key staffers at both Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Missouri Medical School are invaluable aids to the longevity and success of this program which now boasts doctors and medical school students as alums.
