• ST. LOUIS, MO. April 25, 2012 – Randell McGee, a senior at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School, has taken the top prize, a $4,000 college scholarship, awarded at the Monsanto’s Artists-in-Training (AIT) Spring Recital.  He has been accepted to Webster University.

Established in 1990 and unique in the U.S., the Monsanto's Artists-in-Training Program sets out to identify, coach and encourage talented students from high schools across the St. Louis area with weekly voice lessons by opera professionals at one of the four area universities. The program also offers master classes with visiting artists and provides college guidance to high school graduates.

“AIT taught me to be more confident in my singing,” said McGee, who, at the age of 8, got his start singing in the school choir at Lyon@Blow K-8 Academy.

Other SLPS students honored at the Spring Recital include:

    ·         Brandi Harris-Stokes, a sophomore at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School, $100 scholarship

    ·         Abraham Shaw,  a senior at McKinley Classical Leadership Academy, $100 scholarship

Probably one of the most recognized graduates from the Monsanto’s Artists-in-Training program is acclaimed mezzo-soprano Kendall Gladen, a graduate from Roosevelt High School, who also won the top prize at her spring recital in 1994 and has sung major leading roles all over the world.
