    Business Department Mission and Vision

     

    Mission

    The Mission of the Business Education Department at Gateway STEM High School is to prepare students for business, college, and the workplace via internships, credentials, and relevant instruction.

    Vision

    The Vision of the Business Education Department at Gateway STEM High School (through data-informed decisions) is to provide students with authentic instruction, field experiences, mentorship, and partnerships for quality workforce preparation.

    Business Education Faculty

    Mr. Boone's Portrait

    Mr. James Ryan Boone is in his third year as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher at Gateway STEM High School. He teaches Introduction to Business and PLTW Computer Science Principles. He has nine years experience teaching at Carbondale Community High School in Carbondale, IL. At Carbondale, he taught Business and Technology, Keyboarding, Computer Concepts, Computer Programming, and 3D Animation. He was also an FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Adviser for five years, Assistant Baseball Coach for one year, and Assistant Bowling Coach for 4 years.  He earned a Bachelors degree and graduate coursework from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale.

    Ms Cotton

    Ms. Cotton holds a MA in Computer Information Systems.   Prior to joining the faculty at Gateway STEM High School (GSHS), she spent many years in the telecommunications industry.  At GSHS she primarily teaches Microsoft Office courses.  When not working, she enjoys roller skating and spending time with family.

    Graham  

    Mr. Graham holds a MBA from Illinois State University.  Prior to joining the faculty at Gateway STEM High School (GSHS), he spent many years in the investment industry.  At GSHS he primarily teaches Marketing Education courses.  When not working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and Cardinal’s baseball.

    Doctor Polkinghorne

    Dr. Polkinghorne holds a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale in Workforce Education and Development.   Prior to joining the faculty at Gateway STEM High School (GSHS) he served as Associate Professor and Coordinator of Workforce Education and Development in Ohio. At GSHS he primarily teaches business administration, leads FBLA, and coordinates the school store (Jagtown).  When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends and his three AMAZING dogs (Izzabella, Madeline, and Rizzo).
