Alaina Morin

Hello! My name is Alaina Morin and this my 4th year at Gateway STEM High school! Originally graduating with a bachelors in Secondary Education with a focus in History and Anthropology, I originally assumed Archeology was the career for me.

After one very hot Virginia summer excavating 200-year-old paths, I re-discovered my passion for teaching. My favorite part of the day was educating visitors and descendants  of the site on their lost connection to their space. Combining my newfound knowledge of field work and place-based education, I finished my degree and went on to student teach in Detroit, Michigan.

From there I spent a lovely few years at the St. Louis Zoo at Camp Joey and Camp Kanga Zoo in the summers. During the school year, I taught in the Normandy Schools Collaborative as an American History teacher, where I rewrote the curriculum into a project-based, place-based course. Deciding to leave the bones for others to follow, I am excited to work back in a school setting after spending the pandemic at home working with the Missouri Environmental Education Association.

I am so happy to be back in the classroom and to spread the love of place, environment, and history.
