The St. Louis Public School District and the St. Louis Rams Foundation have honored two district elementary school and middle school physical education teachers.

Each was chosen for the 2012 Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award. It was given because of their strong contributions to the physical fitness, health and wellness of the district students. They were chosen after a recommendation by the school principal and a professional colleague, an explanation of their philosophies, and a classroom evaluation by a team of professionals.

The 2012 Elementary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award has been presented to Russell Arms at Lexington Elementary School, 3130 Norwood Ave. He has been with SLPS since 1988 and has coached boys and girls basketball for 21 years.

The 2012 Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award was given to Joseph Lindell at the Compton-Drew Investigative Learning Center, 5130 Oakland Ave. He has been with the district since 2001. Lindell chairs the School Health Advisory Council and started an athletic partnership with St. Louis University High School.
