The St. Louis Public School District will partner with the St. Louis Community Empowerment Foundation to present the 2012 St. Louis Public Schools Back to School & Community Empowerment Festival on Saturday, August 4, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. inside and outside of St. Louis University’s Chaifetz Arena.

The primary purpose of the festival is to remind parents and students about the first day of school – Monday, August 13.

The festival will feature more than 100 vendor booths providing various support services such as: school registration, free and/or reduced lunch applications and support, notary services, transportation enrollment and support, health information, family resources, health screenings, business licensing fair, senior services and hair cuts.

Free backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to students while supplies last. In addition, games, rides, gifts, prizes, and free food will be available for all attendees. Free parking will be available at the Saint Louis University garage on Compton and Olive, as well as on the Harris Stowe State University campus. Shuttle services will also be provided at select locations.

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis is serving as a co-sponsor of this year’s festival.
