About Parent University

Parent University will be a 9-week, in-person, 90-minute learning experience for the parents of current SLPS students. Classes will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. As stated in the mission of Parent University, because of participation, families will “support our students by enabling our parents to become advocates and leaders for their children. Parents/caregivers will build leadership skills and confidence that will help them to change their children’s lives.” 

Parent University will begin in September 2024, and culminate in May 2025, with a large formal Parent University Graduation Ceremony, complete with: 

• Cap
• Gown
• Certificate
• Special Awards for Perfect Attendance 

Parents who participate in Parent University will not receive monetary compensation for participation.  All materials, meals, and graduation regalia will be provided without cost to participating family members. Research supports that children achieve more academically when their families are positively engaged in the schools they attend. (Epstein, 1995, Jeynes, 2005).

Every 1^st Thursday of the month beginning September 5^th                                                                    

Once per week, in person, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Registration begins July 2024

When parents and staff work together to support student learning, students earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, and are more likely to graduate and pursue higher education.
