Program: School Based GardenDescription: Working in partnership with Gateway Greening, an organization that supports and is committed to creating successful school and community gardens, SLPS has implemented 22 school gardens. Gateway Greening gives school gardens tools, soil, expansion grants, free seedlings, and seeds. Gateway Greening also sponsors city-wide garden contests and SLPS-approved garden education professional development.
Gateway Greening provides curricular support and Seed to STEM lesson plans, an elementary curriculum that uses garden activities to meet NGSS and SLPS learning objectives. We partner with University of Missouri Extension and Fontbonne University to provide garden-based nutrition education, and students at participating schools regularly eat garden.
