Ms. Audrey Black

Greetings! My name is Audrey J. Black.  I am the Middle School Guidance Counselor at Carnahan S.T.E.A.M. Middle School.  I have been a school counselor at ‘Carnahan’ ever since the SLPS district opened its doors as Mel Carnahan Middle School in August of 2003.  Prior to this, I was a middle school teacher at Yeatman, then Yeatman-Liddell Middle School for 10 years.  Ask me about St. Louis Community College - Forest Park, Harris - Stowe State College, and UMSL. I completed one year of community college at STLCC - Forest Park before receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Teacher Education from Harris Stowe State College, (now University) and a Masters of Education in School Counseling from the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL).  Doctorate degree... TBA! I attended Westside M.B. Church in St. Louis, MO for 21 years.  As an active member, I performed in plays and skits as part of the Theater Ministry and I was a Children's Wednesday Night Bible Study Teacher.  In September 2019, I was a cast member in the Shakespeare in the Streets play, "Love at the River's Edge".  I am a mother of four children and a grandmother of one, and I believe in Jesus Christ.  In my spare time, I enjoy swimming, peaceful and relaxation activities, traveling, reading, spending time with family and close friends, taking walks, boxing, and planking. I am a volunteer in the City of Pine Lawn and I host the "Plank Challenge" at Carnahan.  Students, as your middle school counselor, a member of the senior class team, and the MO A+ Scholarship building coordinator, I pledge to do everything within my scope of practice to help you and your family achieve the goals needed for your social, emotional, and academic success. My educational motto is: education resembles a 3-legged stool; if one leg is missing, the stool will fall.  The same is true with your education, which involves three pillars; you, your caregivers, and me.  If one of us is not involved, your education will be unsteady, and will eventually fall.  I'm going to do my part to make sure this doesn't happen while you are a student at Carnahan S.T.E.A.M. If you have a question, please do not hesitate to ask, and if I don’t know the answer, I will work to find it.  Thank you in advance for trusting me to be your guidance counselor at Carnahan S.T.E.A.M Middle!
