Carnahan STEAM Middle is the latest and brightest diamond at SLPS. Featuring state-of-the-art facility with its spacious and inviting library, STEAM lab equipped with Z-Space, robotics kits, sensor blocks, and MakerSpace, computer labs with latest technology, and project- and phenomenon-based learning, Carnahan STEAM welcomes middle schoolers all over the city who are looking to build their capacity in STEAM pathways.

Carnahan STEAM is located in South St. Louis City at 4041 S. Broadway. Sitting at the intersection of Gasconade and Broadway, Carnahan is bordered by traditional Dutchtown neighborhood homes, local businesses and Minnie Wood Park.

The school building is a one-story structure of 73,500 square feet, which sits on six acres in a campus like setting.  It houses thirty classrooms, two computer labs, and a regulation size gymnasium with pullout bleachers and a stage.  In addition, Carnahan features a large, open-spaced cafeteria and a spacious library center.

On September 5, 2003, Carnahan opened its doors as Carnahan Middle School. It was named in memory of the late governor Melvin Eugene Carnahan - a true champion of education. In August 2006, Carnahan made its first transition from a middle school to a first-class technology high school. In 2023, Carnahan went through yet another major transition going back to its middle school roots and welcomed incoming 6th grade class. In 2024-2025 academic year, Carnahan began to operate as a full middle school with a focus on STEAM, one of a kind in the district.
