NSMH is the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality.  The chapters are located on college campuses across the country.  This year the organization is celebrating 25 years and is holding their national conference in St. Louis at the Doubletree Hotel in Union Station from February 13-16.

Last fall, the organization contacted Mr. Brown to do a pre-college outreach event at Clyde Miller as part of their pre-conference activities.  Today’s program consisted of a panel of 5 chapter Board members who shared their unique stories on how they got to college and some of the challenges they faced.  The moderator also gave motivational strategies so high school students will know that dreams are possible and you have to take the steps to make your life what you want.  There were about 75 high school sophomores and juniors in attendance.  After the program, the high school students got to ask questions and get acquainted with the approximately 20 college students who helped with this event.

In addition, on February 14, the juniors in the Hospitality Pathway will participate in some of the conference sessions that have been designed especially for them.

“The mission of NSMH is to educate in order to aid in the recruitment, retention, support, and advancement of minority students in the hospitality industry.  Build and maintain relationships between hospitality professionals and minority students in ways that encourage lifelong commitment to the organization.”
