     Biography: 

    Master Chief Steinberg entered the Navy in November 1984 through the Delayed Entry Program.  In August 1985 he attended boot camp in San Diego, California then went to AMH “A” school in Millington, Tennessee.      

     His first tour was in Norfolk, Virginia with Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron TWELVE working on H-53’s. He then transferred to Naval Station Rota, Spain to work in the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD), earning his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualification, and also completed his Associates in Professional Aeronautics with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. On his third tour, he served with Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO THREE (VF-103) on F-14 Tomcats that were part of Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW-17) and completed USS SARATOGA (CV-60)’s final voyage. After USS SARATOGA was decommissioned, VF-103 and CVW-17 cross decked to the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) where he completed work ups prior to leaving active duty.

     In 1996, he affiliated with the Navy Reserve and Mobile Maintenance Facility Detachment HOTEL in New Orleans, LA. He then moved back to his hometown in Owatonna, MN and transferred to Naval Air Station (NAS) Keflavik, Iceland based out of Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Minneapolis.  NAS Keflavik was reassigned to NAS Whidbey and his unit changed to Naval Reserve Naval Aviation Base Support Unit ZERO ONE NINE SIX where he went to Misawa, Japan to serve with AIMD during his Annual Training. Master Chief Steinberg then transferred to his first Senior Enlisted Leader position in NR Fleet Support Training unit running the Damage Control trainer. He then served as NOSC Minneapolis’ Senior Enlisted Leader and attended the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI. After returning from the Senior Enlisted Academy, he was mobilized with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron EIGHT FOUR and was the Senior Enlisted Leader and Maintenance Department Senior Chief earning his Safe for Flight qualification in Balad, Iraq. He returned to NOSC Minneapolis serving with CVNW 0189 until the unit decommissioned. In July 2010, he was again to serve as the Command Master Chief of Theater Field Confinement Facility in Kuwait. In February 2011 Master Chief Steinberg was selected as a Command Master Chief, and decommissioned Maritime Expeditionary Squadron FOURTEEN. He served as Command Master Chief for Littoral Combat Ship Seaframe Minneapolis and has been deployed Serving as the Command Master Chief and running Air Operations at Isa AB, Bahrian. His final assignment was Command Master Chief Afghanistan theater as Navy Central Command Forward Headquarters CMDCM.

     Master Chief Steinberg’s decorations include:  Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Bronze Star, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, and various other personal, unit, and service campaign medals and ribbons.

     In his civilian career, Master Chief Steinberg has been a production Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Process Technician and a Route Sales Representative.
