    Overview:

    Hello Students and Parents and welcome to my teacher page!

    For those parents that I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet,

    my name is Mr.Risch and I am one of two 6th Grade math teachers

    at Carr Lane. As we prepare for an unprecedented school year,

    I want you to know that I am a resource as we

    work together to make sure your student receives an excellent education.

    To make sure I teach your 6th grade student, I teach the following homerooms:

    I will post all homework on Tyler SIS (my online gradebook). Students will turn in

    their homework assignments the following day. If you or any of you have questions

    wait to get to know all of your children!

    Course Description: This class exposes students to highly motivating and relevant problems. The content of this class requires students to have the depth and rigor needed to prepare for career-readiness and other high school-level courses. In addition, this class prepares students to meet the challenges of tomorrow to provide a greater depth of understanding.

    Methods of Instruction: Do Now, Teach Lesson, (In-Class Activities)-Independent/Group Work, Exit Slips, and Homework

     

    Course Objectives: Students will be able to understand and solve for the Number System, Expressions, and Equations, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability

     

    Assignments: Students will complete Do Now’s, In-Class Activities (Independent-Group), Quizzes, Tests, Exit Slips, and Homework  

     

    Exams/Tests/ Quizzes: Quizzes and Tests will be given in a weekly/bi-weekly manner

     

    Grading Criteria: All grades will be based on a point system

     

    Course Requirements: Basic Mathematics/Pre-Algebra

     

    Attendance Policy: Attendance will be taken on a daily basis

     

    GRADING & CRITERIA SCALE

    All mathematics work MUST be done with a pencil

    A         Excellent                      100 - 90                                  Class work = 50%

    B          Good                             89 - 80                                   Homework = 10%

    C          Satisfactory                   79 - 70                                   Test = 25%

    D         Needs Improvement      69 - 60                                   Participation = 15%

    F          Unsatisfactory             Below 60                                

     

    HOMEWORK POLICY: Homework is an important part of a student’s learning.  Since homework will be discussed and sometimes checked during the next class meeting, it is imperative that students set time aside to complete homework nightly.  If absent it is the responsibility of the student to secure all missing assignments within 2 days and return to school within the time frame given by the teacher.

     

    LATE WORK POLICY:

     

    Nightly homework is checked the next class day.  Those assignments can only be made throughout each quarter. If you are absent, please check with the teacher or other students before returning to class to get your assignments.  Late work will be accepted in a timely manner and only partial credit can be received.  Good attendance is encouraged, whereas Do Now’s can’t be made up.  Extra credit work is available under special circumstances. 

     

    MISSED TEST / QUIZ: Missed tests and/or quizzes may be taken if graded items have not been distributed.  If tests and/or quizzes have been distributed the student must make arrangements with the teacher to make-up this work.  The student must have an excused absence.

     

     

    SPECIFIC CURRICULUM ASSESSMENTS: CFAs, CSAs, Renaissance Star Assessments and the Missouri MAP will be given during the following months: September, October, December, March, April, and May.

    To schedule a personal conference or to have a phone conference you may call the office and leave a message with the school secretary.  I will return your call during my planning period or after school that day.  Parents may also email me at justin.risch@slps.org. I check my email several times daily Monday through Friday.  Please remember to include your child’s full name with all correspondence.

     

    RULES/EXPECTATIONS

     

    Students will show respect for the teacher, other students, and equipment.

    Students will raise their hands and wait to be called on before speaking out.  No loud/disruptive talking.

    Students will come to class on time with completed homework, supplies and be ready to work.

    Students will check the progress of their class grade weekly on:   SIS-Parent Portal.

    GRADING CRITERIA

     

    Students will be earning points for each activity they complete.  Daily Do Now’s or Exit Slip activities will usually be worth 5 points a day, In-Class Activities/assignments around 10 points. Quizzes and Tests are usually worth 20 points, and all other assignments (including homework) will be based on a rubric or the amount of work required by the student to complete the activity.

This means that any substantive ideas, phrases, sentences, and/or any published ideas must be properly referenced to avoid even the appearance of plagiarism. It is the student’s responsibility to know all relevant school policies concerning plagiarism. Any documented cases of plagiarism can and will result in a failing grade.
