The CVPA Guitar Program is for serious guitar students and those who want to begin to learn how to play the guitar. The program has been around since the 1980’s. It continues to be one of the most comprehensive high school guitar programs. Guitar students learn how to play on both acoustic and electric guitars. Bass guitar is also included in the program for students wishing to play bass guitar. Graduates go on to college, as well as record and perform locally and worldwide.
Students learn how to play written music, and a variety of guitar-based music from traditional to contemporary genres, such as classical, jazz, blues, pop, country, & rock. They also perform several times throughout the year in formal and informal settings specific for the genre of music chosen for the performance. They will know how to sit properly as a classical guitarist as well as stand like a rock star. The goal is for the student to be able to play, listen, and think like a guitarist/musician.
The classes are open to students who major in guitar and can be taken as an elective to those students who major in some other arts area at CVPA.
