Teacher Message: Hello Parents and Students!

I’m Colin Isreal, Special Education Dept. Chair at Roosevelt High School.  I have been a special education department chair in St. Louis Public Schools since 2002.  First serving at Vashon High School and now at Roosevelt since August 2014.

I have a BS degree as a certified special education teacher for grades Kg-12. I have a master’s degree in administration.

Our department is tailored to fit the needs of students with disabilities. We have a range of exceptional services that can be provided in different ways and in different settings. Our goal is to provide students an opportunity to learn in the least restrictive environment so that they can ultimately thrive to the best of their ability when transitioning into adulthood.

We focus on helping students with IEPs learn, but it doesn’t mean placing them in a special education classroom all day long.  We will assess the needs of our students and develop Individual Education Plans. Our lessons will be adapted to accommodate individual needs.  The supports and services for one student may be very different from those of another student.  With us, it’s all about the individual child and providing the resources needed to make progress in school.  Our staff works with students on strengths as well as challenges.  There is no “one size fits all approach”.

Our aim is to recognize our students’ abilities not disabilities and learn together in a high-quality inclusive environment.

We look forward to meeting with our parents during the students’ IEP conferences.  Our families are key members of the team who decides what our students need to experience academic success.
