your child’s teacher and classroom for the 2017/2018 school year.Meet the Teacher Night - Mark your calendars!!!
In order to help each student feel comfortable with his/her new classroom and new teacher, we will be hosting a "Meet the Teacher" event on Monday, August 14, 2017. Please come by the school anytime between 4:30 - 6:30pm. Although teachers will still be making the final touches on their classrooms, this is an opportunity for you and your child to see the new classroom, meet the teacher and calm any fears either of you may have! New families can also take this opportunity to familiarize yourself and your child with the playground, library, cafeteria and bus drop-off area. You may park in the bus lane for this event.
Curriculum Night (Open House)On Tuesday, September 12th, we will be having an Open House for all students and families. We will begin the evening in the cafeteria at 6:00pm with a short presentation about the coming year. Then parents will go into their child's classroom for the teachers' presentations.
Daily AttendanceWe need all students at school, every day, on time. Children begin transitioning to their classrooms at 9:05 each morning from the playground. It is extremely important that your child begins the day with his/her classroom teacher. Absences for vacations will not be considered as excused absences [SLPS] and as such will be handled according to the excessive absence policy P5118. Excessive absences and excessive late arrivals [SLPS] have negative effects on your child's academic and social growth. Please work with us to ensure your child arrives on time, every day!School Uniform Policy:The current student uniform policy for Stix is:
Shorts, pants, skirts and jumpers in: black, tan or navy.
Shirts with collars, no emblems (except for Stix emblems/logos) solid colors in: white, red, blue, yellow and green. Stix wear (t-shirts) are always acceptable to wear – we hope to have a “Stix Wear Sale” sometime in the fall.
Student Dismissal:The school day ends at 4:10. Children (K-2) who are 'pickups' can be picked up from the pickup room (music room) beginning at 3:50. PK ONLY students can be picked up beginning at 3:15. We allow for PK early dismissal to help ease the congestion on our parking lot.
Please ensure you complete the appropriate school forms to indicate all friends and family members who you allow to pick your child up from school. You can include as many adults (age 18 or older) as possible. We cannot allow anyone to pick up a student if his/her name is not listed on the school forms. Forms will be sent home the first week of school with your child for our returning families. Questions concerning this policy can be answered by any office staff member. This form is required for all students, even if your child rides a bus on a daily basis. Again this year, we will have the procedure for pick-up students that involves color-coded cards. This process will help ensure the safety for all of our children. The process and cards will be explained at registration and during Meet the Teacher Night.Cell Phones:We are requesting that parents DO NOT USE cell phones while driving on the parking lot or while on the school premises. Please do not use your cell phone when you are picking up your child, in the front office, or when you are in the classrooms. Thank you for respecting the environment that we are striving to establish in our school. Children are not to bring cell phones to school. No Soda & Chips for Lunch:Together with the district, we are trying to help establish eating habits for our children. Breakfasts and lunches are well-rounded meals that include vegetables and fruits. If your child receives a school lunch, please do not send additional foods such as chips, fruit drinks or soda. If you pack your child's lunch, please do not include large bags of chips or any kind of soda. Any large bag of chips, such as Hot Fries, Fritos, Doritos, etc. will be sent back home with the child. He/she will not be allowed to eat them at school. If you need clarification on this policy, please speak with Mrs. Dymond. Please post the additional page with “Important Dates to Remember” somewhere in your home so you won’t miss these important dates for the 2017/2018 School Year!
