V Side or No Side!

Ms. Niewald joined the Vashon team in 2022 after serving in school leadership roles in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and St. Louis.  She is proud to work for a Vashon alum, Ms. Brenda Smith – a true community leader.

Ms. Niewald’s is passionate about education.  Her work is driven by a vision of empowering ALL students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose. 

Ms. Niewald has a BS in Biology and BA in International Studies from Mizzou, an MST in Science Education from Fordham, and an MEA in Secondary Administration from Missouri Baptist University.  She was a New York City Teach For America Corps Member, Fund for Teachers Fellow, Math for America Master Teacher, Miles Family Fellow, Relay National Principal Academy Fellow, and the 2019 Teach for America St. Louis Principal of the Year.  In 2020, she received the Emerging Leader Award from the Mizzou Griffiths Alumni Association. 

Outside of school, Ms. Niewald loves reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling.  So far she has traveled to 48 countries!
