Dr. Amy Samm

I began my career in SLPS in 2002 as an ELA teacher at the Clyde C. Miller Career Academy.  I taught AP English Literature, African American Literature, ACT Prep, World Literature, Creative Writing, Freshman Literature and Freshman Literature Double Dose classes throughout my experience.  I served as the ELA Department Chair for five years and also worked as a consultant for the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI).

In 2017, I became the Academic Instructional Coach for Northwest Academy of Law and Social Justice until I transitioned to Vashon in 2021.  My job is to support teaching and learning.  This includes observing teachers non-evaluatively and helping them improve their practice, reviewing and giving feedback on lesson plans, analyzing and reporting on schoolwide data trends, offering professional development opportunities, and creating a safe space for everyone.

I live in Illinois with my husband, Aric, and my son, Liam.  We are a family of artists; my husband's work has been featured in local galleries and my own work has been sold in several areas around St. Louis.  We also enjoy playing video games and travelling in our free time.
