Mr. Herron is in his nineteenth year as Choir Director at Gateway Middle School. He taught the previous ten years at Pruitt Military Academy (next door to Gateway). Mr. Herron earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education at Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master’s degree in Music Education at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. He has done additional studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia. In the fall of 2017, he received Level 1 Certification in Choral Music Education from the Institute for Choral Teacher Education. He was honored in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” in 2005 & 2006.  He has served as rehearsal assistant, music reading instructor, and accompanist with The St. Louis Children’s Choirs.

 

He serves as President & Treasurer for the non-profit organization Scottish Partnership for Arts and Education.  He served as the Middle School Choral Vice-President for the St. Louis Metro District Music Educators Association for 6 years as well as serving as the Metro District #8 representative to the Board of the Missouri Choral Directors Association for 2 years.  He is a docent for Opera Theatre of St. Louis.  He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the Missouri Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Missouri Music Educators Association, Phi Delta Kappa International, the Association for Middle Level Education, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Computer Science Teachers Association and the International Society for Technology in Education.  He is an Apple Teacher and a Microsoft Educator Trainer.
