Mr. Dominique Burton

Greetings to my fellow Bulldogs! My name is Mr. Burton and I am beyond excited to be the Special Education Math teacher at Sumner High School for the 2023-2024 school year. I look forward to introducing you to new concepts that will help you achieve your mathematics goals.

I am from Detroit, Michigan. I attended Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences and graduated in the spring of 2009. Immediately after graduation, I attended Norfolk State University (Norfolk, VA) where I studied Music Education. In 2016, I transferred to Prairie View A&M University (Prairie View, TX), and Graduated in 2018 with a degree in Music Performance. After completing my curriculum at PVAMU, I moved to St. Louis to begin my career in education with Saint Louis Public Schools. My first school was Sumner High School, under the direction and administration of Dr. Sean Nichols. I've been with SLPS since then. In my time here, I've learned that the true joy of teaching is to see your students become something greater than they could have ever imagined.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy creating art and opportunities for others. My loves are music, Mexican food, and drawing. I play with a Second Line brass band named The Red and Black Brass Band. When I'm not doing any of that, you might catch me enjoying parks, nature reserves, or skating outside.

There are so many things that I would love to share with you all, but the most important thing you MUST know about me is that I am fair and compassionate when it comes to teaching my students. My class motto is "You can always do better, so DONT GIVE UP"! We have a responsibility to be our best and to always put our best work forward. I expect nothing but great things from each and every one of my students and I hope that you are all ready to embrace that greatness.
