Dr. Cindy Gibbs

Hello! My name is Cindy Gibbs. Welcome to Long International Middle School. I am so very excited about working with your child(ren).  While I was born and raised in  St. Louis, I understand how difficult it is to learn English.  I want your child(ren) to know that our classroom is a place where they can make mistakes and feel okay with that.  Our class should be working toward improving our English skills, both academic and social, every day.

MY EDUCATION:

I have gone to school a very LONG time.  I have a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Southeast Missouri State University.  I have a PhD program at St. Louis University in Education (Curriculum and Design).  I am also certified in ESOL and teaching Reading.  The best education I receive from my students every day.

My Motto--What I want to stand for:

I will teach my students creative expression to develop considerate, empathetic people, so they can learn to be resourceful and interactive responding to peers, adults, and their world.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family. We like to play board games and watch movies.  I support our three emerging adult children, as they navigate continuing their education and first jobs.  I love to read, cook and dance.  My favorite board games are Dominoes, Scrabble and Catan. I enjoy reading dystopian fiction and the books I ask my students to read. When we go out for dinner, our favorites include various ethnic foods.

Expectations:

1.  Students need to be at school every day,  so they can learn and grow.

2.  Come to school, ready to work.  You must keep up with all assignments. Make sure your iPad is charged.  Have pencils or pens and be ready.  Being ready is a mindset.  Enter the room, listen to some quiet music and relax, so we can begin.

3.  Ask questions, LOUD and PROUD.  Show your voice, so everyone can hear you because your voice is important.

4.  Be Kind.  Being kind is an important life skill.  Being kind, showing respect to yourself, your classmates and teachers. You will have choices about how to complete classwork, giving you a bit of empowerment.

5. If you are having trouble in school (classes, people), tell me, so we can work on that. I cannot help, if I do not know. Coming to school as your best self is part of that.

We are a uniform school.  Please wear your grade level unifom colors to school every day.  Our uniform consists of a collared shirt and khaki or black pants.  Grade level colors:  6th grade--white shirt; 7th grade--dark green shirt; 8th grade--grey or black shirt.
