    Principal Hunt

Welcome to the Long family, community, and school, where everyone that enters hears: "You Belong at Long!"

I am Dr. Benicia Nanez-Hunt, and I am THRILLED to continue to lead this wonderful building of both students and staff, who have committed to embracing our uniqueness and diversity--authentically. This August 2023 is my 23rd year of education and my 6th year leading Long International Middle School. This year, we will continue to embrace the Swahili saying of Sikhona (We are here to be seen), Sawubona (We See You!), and we will support this through the concept of Ubuntu (I am because of you). Long is also a proud Verizon Innovative Learning School, meaning not only do we provide students and teaching staff with Verizon high-speed iPads, but we also provide technology infused learning with the support of Digital Promise, Verizon, and ST Math. This year, our students will explore STEM in our Verizon Innovative Learning Lab--the 1st in the state of Missouri. Our students continue to learn, grow, and excel in literacy, culture, and STEM. This year, we will continue to dedicate our days to supporting students' learning and discovery of who they are to themselves, who they are in this world, and how they are necessary in society as global scholars.

Outside of Long, I am the mother of four: Anthony (26)--an electrician, Amaia (24)--Mizzou grad and current nursing student, Akila (21)--library aide, and Nina (9)--student at Mallinckrodt Gifted Academy. I enjoy spending time with my husband and kids, traveling, folding clothes, cooking for the family, and learning new languages/cultures. Feel free to stop in and visit; and remember, YOU BELONG AT LONG!
