Building Character and Community at Long International Middle School
At Long International Middle School, we are committed to nurturing the whole child. As we continue our journey toward becoming a School of Character through the Character Plus program, we have embraced the Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) Competencies as our guiding framework. These competencies empower our staff and students to understand themselves, their roles in society, and their impact on the world.
Our Theme: LYNX – Connecting Who We Are with What We Do
This school year, our theme is LYNX, inspired by our school mascot. Just as a lynx is known for its agility and keen sense of awareness, we aim to connect who we are with what we do every day. By fostering strong connections between identity, actions, and community, we are preparing our students to be thoughtful, empathetic, and impactful global citizens.
Join Us on This Journey
We invite our families to join us in this meaningful journey. Each month, we will focus on a new SEL Competency, supporting our students' growth in:
- Self-awareness – Understanding their emotions, values, and strengths.
- Self-management – Regulating their behavior and emotions to achieve goals.
- Social awareness – Demonstrating empathy and understanding diverse perspectives.
- Relationship skills – Building positive and supportive connections.
- Responsible decision-making – Making ethical and constructive choices.
Together, we will help our students grow into confident and capable individuals who are prepared to lead with character and purpose.
You Belong at Long!
We look forward to partnering with our families in cultivating a community where every student feels connected, valued, and inspired.
