Ms. Dorris
Welcome back to school, I hope you all had an amazing summer! We are going to have a great year together, and I cannot wait to get to know each and every one of you!
Here are some things you should know about me!
I am originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, but now I live in South County. I graduated from the University of Missouri - Saint Louis with my Bachelor's degree in Science Education last year. For the 2023-2024 school year, I will be teaching 6th & 7th grade Science. This will be my second year teaching Science at Long International Middle School. In my free time, I love to read mystery books and have a goal to read 20 books a year. I also have been learning Spanish on DuoLingo this summer.
Mission Statement
I am committed to being a social advocate who is perceptive to their community. My passion pushes me to continuously improve myself as an educator. I will constantly encourage students to be open-minded and sensitive to one another by modeling mutual respect to create a productive classroom.
Ubuntu
Ubuntu is feeling part of and being accepted by a community. I chose to teach at Long International Middle School because I truly enjoy learning about other's cultures and teaching others about my culture. My mother is an immigrant from Iran, she came here alone as a young child, unable to speak any English. The community supported her, educated her, and accepted her. It is a priority that I return the favor to my community by creating a classroom environment that makes every child feel part of something bigger than themselves.
Expectations for Success & Engagement:
Student must:
- Come to class ON TIME
- Bring daily materials to class (iPad must be charged)
- Participate in class
Homework: One assignment due per week (Due every Friday)
Late/Absent Work: The student has one week to complete the assignment from the original due date. To receive credit, they must also turn in a "Late Work Form".
When & How You Can Reach Me:
During the school day, the best way to reach me is over email. If you need to schedule an over-the-phone meeting or Zoom Meeting, please email me, so I can properly accommodate and plan for the parent/teacher meeting. My planning period is from 1:05-2:05.
