Hello Hickey Hornets!

My name is Zach Smelcer and I am the NEW physical education teacher here at Hickey Elementary School.

I can't wait to get active with you both virtually and in person in the near future.

I graduated in 2012 from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Kinesiology. Following my graduation I spent the better part of three years teaching English in South Korea. Then I moved into the outdoor education space working for international schools in China leading outdoor programs and most recently led gap semesters abroad for high school students in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. I moved back to St. Louis two years ago to start a non-profit that provides these same programs for students in St. Louis and the Metro East.

I'm so excited to embark on this new journey at Hickey Elementary. I have a ton to learn along the way, but I'm ready to take this new challenge head on. Communication will be key as we move into this new space of learning. Feel free to reach out at any time if you have an questions.
