Greetings! My name is LaTasha Gordon-Peyton.  I have been the music teacher at Hickey Elementary for 14 years. I  I have taught in St. Louis Public Schools for 20 years.  In those years, I have had the privilege to observe students academically, physically, socially, emotionally, and musically.  Teaching students from Pre-K- 6th grade has allowed me to see growth in their understanding of music and their ability to perform.  My philosophy of education is that all children can learn.  Some need a little extra attention, some need to be shown how to make connections to their prior knowledge and their talents, and others just need time and PATIENCE!  Whatever the need, I am always here to assist in that manner.  As an educator, I believe developing relationships with students as well as parents is critical. This allows students to be more actively engaged in the learning environment, builds trust between the teacher and students, and most importantly, touches the lives of individuals who appreciate you and your passion to TEACH.  During my time here at Hickey, I have exposed students to a variety of musical genres. Some students have had the opportunity to learn how to play simple melodies and songs on the keyboards as well as their ipads using music apps. and classroom instruments. I enjoy watching them learn and grow year after year.
