    About Provident

After thoughtful and strategic conversations about our history, current status and goals for the future of our agency and our community, we have crafted our new Vision and Mission Statements.

    Our Vision

A St. Louis community in which mental health services are accessible to all, especially the most vulnerable and under-served.

    Our Mission

Helping individuals and families to a brighter future through counseling, suicide prevention and intervention, and community support programs.

    Our History

Founded in 1860 by James Yeatman to help the sick and the poor in the city of St. Louis, Provident has taken action to address societal problems resulting from economical and emotional stress. As a result, many reputable agencies and schools began as programs of Provident including the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, the Visiting Nurses Association, and the Urban League of St. Louis.

Over time, we have provided families hope, and delivered hands-on services to help people find employment, reunite families and build a stronger community.  Our vision today is rooted in the same values that started our journey almost 160 years ago.  Individuals and families, young and old are struggling with mental and behavioral health conditions.  Kids living in our underdeveloped neighborhoods need to be taken care of during critical after school hours. It’s a journey to help individuals and families to a brighter future.
