    Sixth Grade

Sixth grade is a year of transition for our Compton-Drew dolphins.  To support their development, as they transition from elementary to middle school, the scholars are treated to a grouped educational experience.  Grouping provides a familiar and supportive experience for children.  The academic program of study provides our scholars with the opportunity to form deep bonds with their peers, as the same group of children travel from one class to the other throughout the school day.  Our Compton-Drew 6th grade dolphins complete coursework in:

    1. English Language Arts (Sentence Patterns and Structures)
    2. Mathematics (Expression and Equations)
    3. Related Arts (Health and PE, Art, Computer Science, or Music)
    4. Science (Life Science)
    5. Social Studies (Ancient Civilizations)
    6. Study Skills

    Seventh Grade

Seventh grade is a pivotal year for our Compton-Drew dolphins.  This year emphasizes the role of personal responsibility for our scholars.   At the seventh grade level, students leave their sixth grade pod and begin completing coursework with multiple students throughout their school day.  This introduces students to working with a diverse group of students with many different educational backgrounds.  At this level, students further develop their social skills by working with many students throughout the school day. Our Compton-Drew dolphins complete the following coursework:

    1. English Language Arts (Critical Thinking and Communications)
    2. Mathematics (Geometry)
    3. Related Arts (Health and PE, Art, Computer Science, or Music)
    4. Science (Physical Science)
    5. Social Studies (World Geography)
    6. Study Skills

    Eighth Grade

Eighth Grade introduces our dolphins to more independence and responsibility for managing their learning and emotions, as the children strengthen their exploration of expectations for high school. Their school curriculum deepens their skills in managing accountability and uses their critical thinking skills to apply and test solutions to solving a variety of complex challenges, both academic and social.  At this level, students complete coursework in:

    1. English Language Arts (Writing and Complex Grammar)
    2. Mathematics (Pre-Algebra)
    3. Related Arts (Health and PE, Art, Computer Science, or Music)
    4. Science (Biological Sciences)
    5. Social Studies (US History)
    6. Study Skills
