• Dear Parents,

I give you back your child, the same child you confidently entrusted to my care last fall. I give him/her back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible, and more mature than he/she was back then, although this growth would have been attained in spite of me. It has been my pleasure and privilege to watch your child’s personality unfold day by day . I have thrilled at each new achievement, each new success, every achievement of self. I give them back reluctantly, for having spent ten months together Monday – Friday, I have bandaged their cuts, applied ice packs on bumps and lumps, dispensed medications, given insulin injections, nebulizer treatments, attended  IEP and 504 meetings, laughed and cried with them, they have made me a better nurse. We have grown close to each other and we shall always remain a little of each other.

Ten years from now, if we meet on the street, your child and I will have a light that will spring to our eyes, a smile to our lips, and we shall feel that bond of understanding once more, this bond we feel today. We have lived, cared, laughed, played, studied, learned, and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give him/her back I must. Take care of your special child, for this little person is precious.

Remember that I shall always be interested in your child and his/her destiny, wherever he/she goes,  whatever he/she does, or whoever they  become. Their joys and sorrows I’ll always be happy to share.

    Sincerely your school nurse
