    Promising Practices in Character Education Announced for 2015
    Hundreds of effective strategies that develop good character in young people are recognized

     
    Washington, DC –Character.org has awarded 235 Promising Practices to schools, districts, and youth-serving organizations from across the United States --- as well as from Canada, China, India, Mexico, Colombia, and the United Kingdom.
    “These great ideas really highlight the creative efforts of outstanding teachers across the world,” said Dr. Dave Keller, Program Director. “It’s great to recognize what’s going well in the classroom. These practices represent practical, effective ways to develop empathy, conflict resolution skills, and good citizenship.”


    This year’s winning practices include unique anti-bullying programs, creative ways to integrate character and academic subjects, effective strategies for developing student leadership, and activities that build community – within the school and beyond.

    Character.org’s 2015 National and International Promising Practices in Character Education represent:
    * 7 nations (including the U.S.)
    * 27 U.S. states and Washington DC – with the largest numbers from Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, and Pennsylvania
    * Representing 158 public schools, 32 charter schools, 23 private schools, 6 youth-serving organizations, and 7 school districts

    Character.org sponsors the annual program to showcase innovative best practices that are having an impact across the nation and abroad. Character.org encourages educators with similar needs to learn from and even replicate these successful initiatives. Character.org will honor the 2015 recipients at the 22nd National Forum on Character Education, to be held in Atlanta, GA, October 15-17, 2015.
