Have the child:
♥ look at pictures for clues
♥ point to the words
♥ look at the letters
♥ get their mouth ready
♥ look for familiar parts in the word (smaller words, spelling rules, or word family parts)
♥ see if it looks like a word they have seen before
Once they think they know the word have them:
♥ reread the sentence
♥ see if the word sounds right
♥ see if the word makes sense in the sentence
