    FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) Essay Contest: (open to juniors and seniors) Write an 800-1000 word essay on freedom of speech in Academia.     Gates Millennium Scholars Program:  (Exceptional) Eligible students must be pursuing a major in computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health, or science. Students must be African American, American Indian/ Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American with a 3.3 minimum GPA.     Ron Brown Scholar Program: For African-American students who excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.     SAE Engineering Scholarships: Intend to earn a degree in engineering or related science (examples: math, chemistry, physics, biology, technologies, computer science) and meet minimum requirements in regard to GPA and ACT/SAT (varies by scholarship).     100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis Black History Essay Contest: Applicants must develop a 500-word essay in response to one of one of two essay prompts. Award: $500 (3rd place), $1000 (2nd place), $1500 (1st place) Deadline: Feb 28 Website: www.100blackmenstl.com 

     

    AXA Achievement Community Scholarship: Selection based on ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college.     Buick Achievers Scholarship for students interested in a career in the automotive or related industries. Majors in science, technology, engineering, math, business administration, finance, marketing, or design required.     Davidson Fellows Scholarship: (open to students 18 and younger) Awarded to student who have completed a significant piece of work in mathematics, science, literature, music, technology, philosophy, or outside the box.     Dr. Donald Suggs Scholarship (University of Missouri-Columbia): Open to all under-represented minority groups, this scholarship has traditionally been awarded to an African-American student. Applicants must have achieved 27+ on the ACT. AWARD: up to $12,500/ year (1) Deadline: Feb 28

     

    Jackie Robinson Scholarship: For minority students showing leadership potential and commitment to service. Must demonstrate financial need. ACT score of 21 required. You must apply online. AWARD: Up to $7,500 annually. Deadline: Feb 15. Website: www.jackierobinson.org.

     

     

    James L. and Nellie M. Westlake Scholarship Program: 2.5+ GPA is required, as well as financial need.     The NHS Scholarship (National Honor Society): The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), parent organization of the National Honor Society, has awarded NHS Scholarships since 1946, providing more than $12 million in scholarships to outstanding NHS members.     March Scholarships

     

    USPAACC Scholarships: (open to students 16 and older) Students must be enrolling in post-secondary education in the fall. Must be of Asian Pacific Island heritage (except for Bruce Lee Scholarship); possess a 3.3+ GPA; demonstrate leadership, service, and need. Winners must be able to attend CelebrAsian conference in June. Various scholarships available.     Eagle Scout/American Legion Scholarship: Must be an active member of a Boy Scout Troup chartered to an American Legion Post or be the son or grandson of a Legionnaire, at least 15 years of age, and have received a religious emblem.     The Maureen L. & Howard N. Blitman, P.E., Scholarship to Promote Diversity in Engineering: Awarded annually to a high school senior of an ethnic minority who has been accepted into an ABET-accredited engineering program at a four-year college or university. Evaluation based upon GPA, internship/co-op experience and community involvement, honors/awards, recommendations, and essay responses.     Masonic Scholarship Fund of Missouri: 3.0 GPA, financial need and involvement in extra-curricular activities are requirements of both scholarships. Ruth Lutes Bachmann Scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in nursing or education. The Samuel Smith Stewart Scholarship is not major specific.     Stacy Smith Foundation Scholarships: Academic Scholarship must have an overall GPA of 3.3, must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher in a major course of study and must also complete a typed, 150 word essay explaining why they are deserving of the scholarship. Athletic scholarship must have an overall GPA of a 3.0, be a member of a high school athletic team, submit a letter of recommendation for one coach, and must also complete a typed, 150 word essay explaining why they are deserving of the scholarship. Hardship Scholarship must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, and must also complete a typed 250-word essay explaining situation, their contribution to the community, and why they are deserving of the scholarship.     William L. Clay Scholarship and Research Fund: Applicant will be considered on the basis of academic achievement, potential and financial need. Must live in 1st Congressional District (St. Louis City and part of St. Louis County – not Kirkwood area) and be a registered voter (if qualified). AWARD: unknown.     American Chemical Society Scholarship: For minority students pursuing a degree in the chemical sciences or chemical technology. Awards based on academic achievement in the sciences (3.0+), leadership skills, school/community involvement and financial need. Must start application process online.     Arnita Boswell Scholarship: Recognizes African-American students who have demonstrated academic excellence, concern for their community and the Black family, and a desire to continue their studies to completion.     The William Pablo Feraldo Memorial Foundation Scholarship: Applicant must be male high school student, demonstrates financial need and receive a recommendation by a school official.  $2,000 - $5,000 (Renewable) Deadline: March 15 

     

    April Scholarships

     

    Ava’s Grace Scholarship Foundation: Awarded to children of incarcerated parents in the state of Missouri. Financial need is a consideration. Student must have a 2.5+ GPA. AWARD: $5000 (2) Deadline: April 15 Website: www.avasgrace.org

    Fred E. Kiefer and Florence E. Kiefer Scholarship: For young men and women who reside in metro St Louis who would otherwise be unable to obtain post-secondary education.     Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen, INC.     McDonald’s Academic Excellence Award: The McDonald’s Academic Excellence Award Scholarship is a onetime, $3,000 scholarship that, in partnership with the UNCF, is awarded to college-bound St. Louis and Metro East high school seniors (both young men and women) of African-American descent. McDonald's values education and offers scholarships to empower area youth and provide resources to help them attend college.
