Welcome to Virtual Learning with SLPS
-
Here we go again!
SLPS has worked hard to ensure that all students have been provided with a personal technology device preloaded with Microsoft Teams, and several other virtual platforms and applications that students will be expected to use in the event of an AMI (Alternative Method of Instruction) day.
So, what does virtual learning look like in the 2023-2024 academic year?
Virtual Learning
- Students will login to their Microsoft Teams platform at the start of the regular school day. Students can access all of their class meetings and posted assignments from their Teams page. (Classroom teachers will provide additional guidance regarding the daily schedule and expectations for virtual learning.)
- Look for the blue Teams logo on district issued devices. For students using district issued devices, they should already be logged in as part of the single sign on process. If needed, parents may contact the classroom teacher for login information.
-
If families need additional support, click here or go to www.slps.org/virtual to access Microsoft Teams tutorials. Additionally, families can contact the help desk at 314-345-5757 or HelpDesk@slps.org.
Reading on Virtual Learning/AMI Days
- All students are expected to read at home for 30 minutes each day on AMI/virtual learning days. (Non-reading students may need an at-home reading buddy!)
- Teachers will be sending home books with all students. There are also virtual books available.
- All students will complete a reading reflection activity for each AMI/virtual learning day.
- Click here to access the district AMI Reading Plan.
Non-Tech Assignments
- Students who do not have access to their technology outside of the school day will be given non-tech assignments to complete on AMI days prior to building closures.
- Classroom teachers and schools will communicate directly with families and provide expectations for the non-tech daily work that should be completed to count as an instructional day.
- If families have specific questions regarding non-tech assignments, they can reach out directly to the teacher or school principal.

Virtual Learning Technology Platforms & Information Systems
St. Louis Public Schools utilizes three core platforms for virtual learning:
- School/teacher website for public information
- Microsoft Teams for video conferencing, assignments, and collaboration
- Tyler SIS - Parent Portal for secure student information including: demographic data, grades, attendance, behavior, and contact info
What to expect as a parent:
- An instructional planner will be posted by 8:00am at the start of each day of virtual learning in the teachers website under the virtual learning tab. This instructional planner is designed to make it easy for parents and students to know what learning will take place for the week.
- All teachers will keep up-to-date online gradebooks in SIS. Parents can access their student's grades/gradebook by signing up for parent portal. Click here to access the parent portal site. For all SIS related issues send an email to PupilAccounting@slps.org.
- All classrooms will utilize Microsoft Teams as their core instructional platform. Go the your teacher's website or contact your child's teacher directly to obtain login information for Teams. From this site, select the Microsoft Teams tutorials tab to get started with Microsoft Teams.
