Why We Stand Out At Washington Montessori, our 4th and 5th grade math curriculum is standards-based and meticulously aligned with the Missouri Learning Standards. We ensure that your child receives a comprehensive education that meets state requirements.

Standards-Based Learning The Missouri Learning Standards help ensure students learn basic and higher-order skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking. The standards are relevant to the real world and reflect the knowledge and skills students need to achieve their goals. Learning outcomes improve when students, parents and teachers work together toward shared goals. The Missouri Learning Standards give school administrators, teachers, parents and students a road map for learning expectations in each grade and course.

Departmentalized Instruction is a model where teacher specialize in one or more subjects and teach those subjects to multiple classes of students. We have learned that there are many benefits to this approach.

    • Teacher Expertise: Teachers can develop deeper knowledge and skills in their chosen subject area, leading to more effective instruction.
    • Student Focus: Students benefit from teachers who are passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects they teach.
    • Strong Teacher/Student relationships. The relationships students and teachers build are a key factors in the learning process. Departmentalized instruction leads to better learning outcomes.

If you have any questions about the 4th or 5th grade MATH curriculum or departmentalized instruction, please reach out to me, I would be happy to answer any questions!
