L'Ouverture has reopened as a middle school, the Academy of Environmental Science and Mathematics @ L'Ouverture. Students love their new space.

The school was named for Gen. Pierre Dominique Toussaint L’Ouverture (1743-1803). He was the leader of the Haitian Revolution, a slave revolt in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, which resulted in the end of slavery there and the establishment of the Republic of Haiti.
